Inflammatory Bowel Disease is used to describe both Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease. These disorders are chronic inflammatory conditions of the wall of the gastrointestinal tract.

Their cause is unknown.

Medications used to treat these disorders include:

  • Corticosteroids
  • 5-Amino Salicylic Acid Compounds
  • Immunomodulatory drugs and drugs that target the inflammatory cascade.

Surgery may be needed to manage the complications or where medical treatment fails.
