Steven Allman – Severe reflux finally diagnosed

Steven was born with Cerebral Palsy and other health issues.  As a child, he struggled to put on weight and thrive.  He had difficulty communicating, so his mum, Sabina, thought his crying and distress was caused by his other health conditions.  He would wake often and seem to be choking, so Sabina would listen through the night to ensure his airway was clear.  Throughout his childhood, she tried everything to help him settle and put on weight.

After 20 years of struggling Sabina took Stephen to a different GP for a 2nd opinion and was referred to a Gastroenterologist. The gastroenterologist performed an endoscopy and found that Steven’s oesophagus was very red and inflamed – Steven had been suffering from severe reflux and was in agony, making swallowing very painful.

Steven started medication to treat the reflux and was soon able to enjoy food and an uninterrupted night’s sleep.  An endoscopy a year later, showed his oesophagus was smooth and pink - perfectly healthy.

Steven is now much happier and really enjoys his food.  Sabina wants to encourage others who are struggling with their digestive health, to seek further advice until you start to feel better.
